Most of us start riding in our sports shoes and flat pedals. And when you ask your fellow riders to switch to cleats and clipless pedals they will always tell you that you will fall because your foot is locked with the pedals.
Here are some reasons you should immediately switch to clipless pedals.
Safety :
This is one of the most important safety device after helmet on your bike. Most of the time you fall after getting into a ditch or hitting a stone is because you loose balance & your foot slips from the paddle. And it slips because it’s not locked with the pedal. Your foots front and backward movement get locked with the pedal when you used clipless pedal and by this, you will not slip from the pedal.
Efficiency :
With your feet attached with the pedal, your body and bike become one unit, by this your power transfer is more efficient and you generate more power in every stroke. And because your foot is attached to the pedal you can push and pull your pedal by this you don’t have any blank spot in your pedal stroke. You become faster and this process helps you to be a better climber as well.
Power :
As discussed above when you are attached to the paddle you can pull up the paddle as effectively as you can push down which helps in generating more power. This also helps in load sharing of leg muscles, so you can pedal on high power for longer duration.
Control :
When you become one unit with your bike. You have better control over your bike. You can bunnyhop, you can ride faster on gravel downhills because there is no fear of slipping from the paddle.
